One of Walter Smith's early signings, David made his Everton debut in the 5-0 victory over Middlesbrough 17th February 1999. David is a player who travelled an unorthodox route into the game, studying in the USA for four years, before eventually signing for his home team Falkirk in 1992. After a happy four season at Falkirk, he moved to Hearts, where the central defender enjoyed an outstanding first season, which allowed him to gain international recognition.During France 98 David was chosen for the Scotland squad, competing against teams like Morocco and Norway. He has 27 caps for his country. With 83 appearances for Everton in total, the 31-year-old defender was ever-present for Everton in the 2000-2001 season and is considered the 'Mr.Reliable' figure for the Toffees. He had another consistent season in the Everton defence in 2001/02, making 47 appearances, and scoring five goals. Near the end of the season he was linked with a move to Manchester United, but denied that he would leave Goodison Park. The Everton skipper was at the heart of all they achieved in 2002/03 as David Moyes' team went from relegation candidates to Europe-chasers, and though they missed out at the end, it was in no way a reflection on Weir's inspirational efforts. The 2003/04 campaign saw Weir's first team appearances limited to just 12 outings as he suffered with injury. The 2004/05 season saw Everton realise their Euro-dreams, finishing 4th and clinching the final Champions League position. Weir played a crucial part, making 37 appearances and scoring once as he once more became a fixture the Toffees defence.

2005/2006

2005/06 saw a continuation of his good form for club and country as was a near ever-present for Everton, scoring the winning goal in their 1-0 victory over Manchester City, while he ended the season playing for Scotland in Japan. And there was further Scottish action for Weir in 2006/07 as in January 2007 he was released by Everton and signed for Rangers , and his experience proved vital in one of the club's most successful seasons ever in 07/08.
