Andrew Shinnie made his first appearance for Rangers in a Scottish Premier League match against Aberdeen, he also played another match that day for Rangers U19, scoring two goals in the win over St Mirren U19 team.

Shinnie also won the Scottish Youth Cup Final over arch rivals Celtic, on 26th April 2007. Andrew scored Rangers first of five.

In November 2008, Shinnie signed for Dundee until the end of the season. Making 20 appearances for the Tayside team, and scoring just the one goal. In January 2010, he was re-loaned to Dundee.
