Jérôme Rothen joined Rangers on a season long loan from Paris St Germain. He's a French internationalist having appeared 26 times for France. He made his debut against Motherwell in a 0-0 game.

Rothen is a skilful left winger and a free kick specialist, who has played for the French national team 13 times, scoring three goals. PSG manager Toni Kombouare has allowed him to leave after Rothen publicly criticised the club’s management team. He was expected to join Schalke but due to the end of the German transfer window, no deal was completed. Blackburn Rovers were also keen on him, but pulled out due to the £2 million transfer fee. Rothen played in the 2004 European Cup final for Monaco alongside Dado Prso, when they lost 3-0 to Porto. Prior to joining Rangers, he has played in France his whole career; starting at SM Caen, Troyes, AS Monaco and Paris Saint Germain.

His time at Rangers hasn't turned out the way it should and it's expected he will go to Turkey before the transfer window ends. He signed for Ankaragücü on January 30th 2010 and will stay on loan there until the end of the season before returning to PSG. Have you ever known a Rangers player to spend 2 months in his homeland whilst still at the club? He had swine flu and returned to Scotland one day to hand in a sick note before flying back, which was nice of him. He complained that no one gave him a reason for not playing more at Rangers, but his performance against Unirea sort of paved the way for his exit. Nonetheless, we wish him well in Turkey.
