Allan McGregor is the current first choice goalkeeper for Rangers. He made his debut in the 6-0 win over Forfar in the cup but featured sparingly over the years and was loaned out to St. Johnstone in 2004 and Dunfermline in 2005. Paul Le Guen came and it looked like he would be leaving. Klos was there and Lionel Letizi was brought in but Klos was ruled out for 8 months in a bizarre accident. Letizi came in but got injured and McGregor grabbed his chance spectacularly. He was Player Of The Month in the September but was dropped when Letizi was fit. It backfired and Letizi got injured again. This time McGregor wouldn't be moved from number one. He saw out the rest of the season but the 2007/08 campaign was simply stunning. He was on form for 99% of the matches and the save in the last minute against Werder Bremen was up there with Andy Goram's against Van Hooijdonk. He even saved a penalty against Celtic with a broken ankle. Last year wasn't too good, it all started against FBK Kaunas and was eventually dropped for three games one quarter of the way through the season. He would come back but was suspended for Rangers because of his actions with Scotland. Himself and Barry Ferguson decided it would be funny to stick up two fingers to the media but Walter Smith wasn't laughing. Both were fined 2 weeks wages and McGregor never played for the remaining three months of the season. Ferguson was sold. They will never play for Scotland again. Well, that was the official line from the SFA and George Burley but Craig Levein's came in and he would have returned had he not gotten injured for the friendly against the Czech Republic.
He did win his place back for the beginning of the current campaign and has slowly but surely started to look like his old self. Hopefully he can reproduce the same form as 2007 and he did. Unfortunately, he got injured again at Celtic Park in the penultimate game of the season which ruled him out for 6 weeks. Luckily the season was already over.
