Steven Davis was initially brought in by Walter Smith in a loan deal in January 2008. He made his debut in the 0-0 draw with Panathinaikos at Ibrox and was steady. The man from Ballymena would then turn in some quite brilliant performances at the start of his loan deal before fading towards the end of it. I don't think he could even envisage playing as many games as he did in the second half of the season as every weekend and weekday was taken up for the next 5 months. He started off at Aston Villa before former Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez took him to Fulham. Sanchez described Davis as the next Frank Lampard when he won the "Young Player of the Year", "The Fans Player of the Year" and "Player of the Year" for Villa in 2005/06. Roy Hodgson took over and wasn't getting a game so Walter saw the opportunity and proved to be something of a masterstroke. He signed permanently on 21st August and is the youngest modern day captain of Northern Ireland when he played against Uruguay.

2008/2009 Season

Davo was signed after Kaunas and like Mendes, would start the season off brilliantly. His form tailed off though and matters weren't made any easier when his mother died around November time. The entire Rangers squad flew out to Ulster to comfort him during the time. The highlight of it though was definitely the winner in the Old Firm game with 3 matches remaining of the season. This helped us go top of the table with 2 weeks left of the season.

2009/2010 Season

The 09-10 season has been decent for Davis. He gave a fantastic performance in the pre season match against Man City and followed it up against Falkirk and Hamilton, the latter on the receiving end of 3 assists out the 4 goals. Since then he's been steady without being spectacular and had his goal against Dundee United disallowed after the game was postponed at 1-0. However, since around December, Davis has shown why he is the best player in Scotland with a number of man of the match performances. He was disappointed he hadn't scored a goal this season but that changed in the 2-0 win over St Mirren, where he scored in 97 seconds to put us 1-0 up. He scored again 4 days later against Falkirk. This time it was a free kick from 20 yards out that went in the top corner. He scored another taking his tally to 3 and he won a few personal awards at the end of a fantastic season.
