Neil Alexander signed for Rangers from Ipswich after Roy Carroll was sold to Derby County. He made his debut in the Scottish Cup at Easter Road after McGregor was sent off with a few minutes to go. Alan McGregor then injured himself at Parkhead and Alexander was thrown in but unable to prevent a 93rd minute winner. He proved himself to be a very capable keeper and saved Rangers in the semi final penalty shootout win over St. Johnstone at Hampden and pushed a Liverani penalty round the post in the UEFA Cup semi final shootout. This set us up for Novo to send us to Manchester.
2008/2009 Season
Alexander surprisingly got a few games a couple of months into the season as Walter Smith tried to shake up McGregor who was going through a poor spell. Despite playing well in 3 games he was dropped. He wouldn't play consistently again until a few months later when McGregor and Ferguson were suspended by the club for 2 weeks. Alexander took advantage of this and produced great displays without making mistakes. The big question was who would start the 2009/10 season in goals?
2009/2010 Season
McGregor was chosen, which was very harsh on Alexander as many felt he deserved to keep his place. He didn't though and the only appearances he's made this season has been in the cups against Queen Of The South and Dundee. Alan McGregor injured a hamstring and also came in for the games against St. Johnstone and Dundee United; Rangers won both games 3-0.
